There are many food festivals during the summer in Tuscany; exactly what you would expect from a culture so in love with food and wine. Small villages throughout Tuscany host Sagras for specific foods each weekend like the Sagra di Porcini of Monte Catini in August. At these festivals you have the opportunity to sample the featured food in a variety of different typical recipes and often for free.
In the regional capital of Florence the summer brings a thriving nightlife outdoors with several major piazzas like Santo Spirito and Santissima Annunziata hosting nightly live music concerts and an open bar. A particularly popular place is Piazza Poggi located just below Piazzale Michelangelo. This is just behind a mediaeval watch tower and the restaurant and bar feature live music for everyone every night!
Tuscany has a wide range of events and festivals from the famous Palio held in Siena every July and August to a myriad of small local religious events and food festivals. Tuscany also has many antiques fairs with Arezzo's being one of the most well known in the whole of Italy; this should not be missed and it is held on the first Sunday and preceding Saturday of every month. There is another good antiques fair to visit in Florence in Piazza dei Ciompi on the last Sunday in each month.
Siena (for collectors of stamps, coins) - Piazza del Mercato - third Sunday of the month.
Montepulciano - Piazza Grande - second Saturday and following Sunday of each month.
San Miniato - Antiques on first Sunday of each month (not July and August), Organic Produce and crafts on second Sunday of each month.
Marina di Grosseto - third weekend of each month.
